Assistant Seedling Nursery Manager

Location: KwaZulu Natal

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a hands-on, honest and reliable Assistant Nursery Manager to join an established team with a leading commercial seedling nursery. Based about an hour outside of Pietermaritzburg this position reports to the Operations Manager.

Responsibilities will include: 

  • Manage the planting of all seed and clonal orders;
  • Manage the preparation of trays, medium and other inputs to ensure smooth and efficient running of the planting operation;
  • Manage clonal hedge tunnel production, optimizing quality and size of cuttings to improve rooting percentage;
  • Manage the rooting and hardening off of all cuttings;
  • Conduct plant quality checks and compile weekly stock reports and germination checks;
  • Monitor inventory levels of production inputs;
  • Manage pack-shed operations, pulling of orders and loading of trucks.

Please note that working hours are from 07h00 until 17h00 during the week and include a full weekend duty once a month.

Minimum requirements: 

  • Matric (a relevant tertiary qualification is preferred);
  • Hands-on experience in an intensive agricultural/ horticultural plant production environment;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills;
  • A passion for producing quality plants;
  • Fluency in both English and isiZulu;
  • Good administration skills and numerical literacy.
